A Queensland policeman is undergoing medical assessment after being struck by an allegedly stolen Mercedes while conducting speed checks.

The male officer attempted to intercept the luxury vehicle on foot on a road in Brisbane’s south when it was “driven directly” at him, according to Queensland Police Service.

The policeman was treated at the scene on Orange Grove Rd in Salisbury and was in a stable condition but further examination was needed.

“The vehicle left the scene and has since been located abandoned on Eaton Place at Wishart,” QPS said in a statement.

“Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a white Mercedes sedan in the Wishart area between 6.40 and 6.50 this morning to come forward.”

The incident comes more than a day after another allegedly stolen car driven by youths crashed on a Gold Coast Motorway after clipping the back of a truck and bursting into flames on impacting a barrier.

All children were injured in the flaming wreck, while a boy, 12, and girl, 14, were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
