A petition calling on the State Government to overturn its decision to close the Canal Rocks boat ramp has garnered more than 1300 signatures and will be presented to Parliament next week.

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam will present the petition on behalf of the community, which she said should trigger an inquiry into the boat ramp.

Ms Mettam said the Government’s concerns about the safety of the ramp were unfounded, as there had been no serious injuries reported at the ramp.

The comments were made in response to inquiries from South West MLC Steve Thomas, who last week questioned Environment Minister Stephen Dawson about injuries at the facility.

Mr Dawson said the department had received advice that there appeared to be a clear and imminent risk of serious injury to users of this facility.
