Nominations are open for the annual Volunteer of the Year recognition awards for Busselton and Dunsborough.

The awards are organised by the Busselton Dunsborough Volunteer Centre with the City of Busselton, and volunteer centre co-ordinator Carl Holroyd said they were an opportunity to show appreciation for the hours of devoted community work volunteers contributed.

“Volunteers contribute enormously to the health and welfare of our community, and these awards will recognise and highlight outstanding achievements and service to the community by nominated individuals,” he said.

The awards coincide with National Volunteer Week, which runs from May 8-14.

This year the awards have been extended to recognise the roles volunteers undertake for tourism and the events industry.

The awards have four categories: The Harvey Norman open award, the Geographe Camping and Tackle World seniors’ award, the Apex youth award and the Rotary tourism and events award, with prizes totalling $400 in each category.

Nominees and winners will be presented at the Volunteer Awards celebration on Monday, May 8.

Nominations are open between Monday and April 6 and can be made at bdvolunteers.org.au, by emailing volunteers@westnet. com.au or hard copies of the form are available from Harvey Norman, Geographe Camping and Tackle World, and the City of Busselton Customer Information Centre. For information, phone Carl Holroyd on 0434 916 700 or Tayla Pillage on 9781 1757.
