Defenders credited for Mulies flag win

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Dunsborough-Yallingup Mulies rounded out their undefeated season, taking out the Onshore Cup in last Friday night’s grand final.

It was stiff competition between the two teams, with the Busselton Bombers unable to claim what would have been their third premiership, defeated by the Mulies 10.4 (64) to 2.7 (19). The game drew a large crowd to the Dunsborough playing fields for the first night-time grand final in the competition’s history.

Mulies team manager Paul Burke said the match was hard fought by both teams.

“It was in our back half for over half the game,” he said.

“However I felt our defence held up, and as a result we were able to rebound up forward.” Clint Cummins, Liam Green and Brant Cumming were named best players for Mulies, while John Blincow, Matthew Levitzke and Dave Stobbie were named best players for Busselton.

Brant Cumming was named best on ground for the game and received the Brown Eye Award.

The premiership marks the Mulies’ 20th flag in the 35 years of the competition.
