Busselton AFL Masters Football Club are set to take on their South West rivals, hosting this year’s Masters AFL South West Carnival at Sir Stewart Bovell Sporting complex this weekend.

Eleven teams from throughout the South West — some travelling from as far as Albany and Waroona — will compete with five teams from Perth on Sunday, June 4.

All three football ovals at the complex will be used, with games played simultaneously from 10am- 4pm.

Busselton Magpies Masters president George Pearson said masters football was played by over-35s who enjoyed playing “football for kicks”. “The South West competition has grown so much that we can’t play every team in the season games, so the carnival is good because we can fixture all teams to play,” he said.

“It’s really a big family day so the kids, wives and grandparents are involved and it’s always a pretty relaxed and nice atmosphere.”

Busselton Magpies will play at 10am, 11.30am and 1.45pm, while the Dunsborough Ducks will play at 10.45am, 1pm and 3.15pm.
