South West producers are among those benefiting from the State Government’s latest round of fresh food funding. The Manjimup Visitor Centre has secured $50,000 to shine a light on Southern Forests producers as one of the latest recipients of the State’s farmers’ market grant scheme. The centre along with 10 other recipients shared in $469,000 to support business sustainability and operational performance and growth, with the Collie Farmers Market Inc. also securing $28,956. The funds for both South West venues will be used to buy infrastructure, aid compliance, pursue marketing and communications campaigns and progress development plans. Applicants will also be able to use funds for business planning, food safety training, market development and one-off projects that build financial sustainability. Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis said the funding was the first in Australia to support community hubs which celebrate fresh WA produce and agrifoods as well as connecting businesses and providers. “This funding will assist farmers’ markets in building capability and ensuring a sustainable business model for future success,” she said. “I encourage all Western Australians to check out their local farmers’ market, support local businesses and source some great local fresh produce.”
