Busselton Repertory Club will open pantomime season with an imaginative tribute to Dickens with its Humbug production.

Inspired by her love for Dickens, director Marj Evans said she had been working on the script for more than a year.

“It’s a mix of Christmas carols and Oliver Twist made into a pantomime script,” she said. “It’s a very colourful and energetic show, with over 67 people included in the cast.”

Evans said the cast comprised actors of all ages.

“We had a huge audition process, and it’s great because there’s not a lot we do which involves young children,” she said. “We’ve also had a few successful actors come out of it, with one person now working on Aladdin in Sydney.”

This year the club has planned different start times with afternoon shows commencing at 3pm instead of 4pm.

“People have requested earlier start times so hopefully now parents and grandparents who might like to bring kids along won’t be so intimidated by the time schedule,” Evans said.

Humbug will play 14 shows, from January 1-14.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 concession and $10 for children under 12 and are available from Callows Corner Newsagency.
