West Busselton teenager claims sport star for soccer success
A West Busselton teen has traded her bibs for boots and is seeing nothing but success on the soccer field.
16-year-old Ava Richards has been named this month’s Busselton Freight Rising Sports Star, following her shining progress on the park after switching over to the sport from netball five years ago.
An avid member of the South West Phoenix club in Bunbury, Ava had a great season with her team, the Firebirds, who won the night series and State League division one competitions.
Her talents have also been recognised on a Statewide scale as the only Busselton player selected to represent the Football West State under 16 team this year.
In 2019, the soccer player attended the Football West country camp where she was then selected for the under 14s squad for the Singa Cup played in Bishan.
Football West’s Leeuwin Naturaliste development officier Juan Bautista Propato said the teen was a great role model for other young athletes.
“She is a great example of hard work paying off for young talent,” he said.
“Her passion, determination and leadership is a great example to other girls playing sport in the region.”
