Strong northerly winds of up to 100km/h are expected to hit between Mandurah and Lancelin later tonight [wednesday], with DFES warning residents of potential damages to homes.

DFES is asking residents to prepare for the severe weather event that is expected to hit tonight.

“Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury,” a DFES statement read.

“Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area and move vehicles under cover.”

Residents who are currently away from their homes should contact family or friends to prepare their homes before the storm hits.

Flooding may also occur in low-lying coastal areas.

Perth is currently getting hit with 30-40km/h wind gusts — which are expected to increase through the night to around 90km/h.

The rainfall is expected to bring 5-10mm of much-needed rain throughout the affected regions.
