Keaon Koloamatangi has inked a new deal with the South Sydney Rabbitohs that will keep him at Redfern until at least the end of the 2024 season.

A starter in the Rabbitohs’ 2021 grand final side, Koloamatangi has played 37 NRL games since making his debut last year.

The 23-year-old said he was pleased to have recommitted to the Rabbitohs.

“Souths is my junior club and I want to stay here for as long as I can,” Koloamatangi said.

“We made the grand final this year and that experience has made me hungrier than ever to win a premiership.”

Koloamatangi said he was excited to continue his quest for grand final glory under new coach Jason Demetriou.

“I think we have an opportunity to do (win a premiership) here in the short term with the players and the coaches we have and I want to be part of helping this club win its 22nd premiership,” he said.

“I love this club. I feel comfortable here and I know the club has my best interests at heart, which makes me want to do my best every chance I get to represent Souths.

“I’m really happy to be extending my contract and I can’t wait for Season 2022 to get underway.”

Rabbitohs head of football Mark Ellison confirmed Souths had big plans for Koloamatangi.

“We see Keaon as one of the cornerstones of not just our forward pack, but of our club, over the next decade, so rewarding him with a further contract extension made sense,” Ellison said.

Koloamatangi joins Mark Nicholls and Alex Johnston in re-signing with South Sydney in the weeks following the club’s grand final loss to Penrith.

As preparations for the 2022 season get underway, the Rabbitohs are beginning to adjust to life without captain Adam Reynolds, who has packed his bags for Brisbane.

Benji Marshall, Jaydn Su’A and Dane Gagai have also departed the club. Marshall has hung up the boots after a storied career that spanned 19 seasons, while Su’A and Gagai have signed contracts with the Dragons and Knights respectively.
