A former Busselton dancer has featured in the top five of a global pageant held in Los Angeles.

Jessica Newell took part in the Miss Queen Universe pageant in January, competing against 57 contestants from across the globe in swimsuit, evening gown and question and answer rounds.

Newell told the Times the opportunity to represent Australia on a world stage was an unforgettable experience, as well as the chance to get involved in more charity work.

“It was my first pageant and I thought I’d be nervous, but it was so much fun,” she said.

Newell said she needed to thank her local sponsors and family for helping her enter.

The 21-year-old moved to Los Angeles last year in an attempt to launch her career and has returned to the region for a short holiday.

She said she was looking forward to spending time with family and friends and also working with some local charities.

Since making the move to the United States, Newell has featured in a number of music videos and an episode of Ellen DeGeneres where she was invited to dance onstage.

Newell also secured a featured extra role on Oz: The Great and Powerful, where she got to star alongside Hollywood heavyweights such as Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams.
