Charity quiz night to hit Shelter Brewing Co as local gears up to take on trek of a lifetime

One Busselton local’s boots are certainly made for walking, as she gears up to conquer one of Western Australia’s greatest hiking trails, the Bibbulmun Track. Annamarie Threfall is setting off next week to start her 62-day trek, tackling the 1003km trail journeying from Perth’s Hills down to Albany, all in the name of charity. Joined by her long-time friends Deb and Brett Lorking the trio aim to raise $10,000 to split between two close-to-home charities, Wheelchairs for Kids and the Hero Hunter Foundation. In order to achieve their fundraising goal, the Shelter Brewing Co employee has teamed up with the breweries General Manager Paul Maley to put together a quiz night this Tuesday night. With prizes kindly donated from several local businesses, it is set to be the perfect going away celebrations before the group hit the road. Mr Maley said the Shelter team is excited to be supporting a wonderful cause. “We’re super proud, Annamarie’s got such great ambition to do this project,” he said. “It’s no easy feat for anyone, so good on them for accepting the challenge.” The Hero Hunter foundation is a recently developed not-for-profit group commemorating Deb’s daughter’s best friend’s son, Hunter, who passed away from leukaemia last year. Mrs Threlfall said Hunter took a liking to superheroes, inspiring the name of the organisation. “Hunters favorite color was green so we’ve had little green capes with the Hero Hunter foundation logo on the back,” she said. “We’re going to have them on the back of our packs in his honour so people know who we are when we cross paths.” The second charity, Wheelchairs for Kids, is a WA-based organisation that provides terrain wheelchairs for children in third world countries. The trio of hikers will each be carrying wheels from the chairs with them as they hike, with hopes to secure their wheels to a chair on completion of the track in Albany. “We’re hoping we can actually attach this disc to the wheel, and that would be a nice full circle moment for us,” said Mrs Threlfall.
