One person has died in a fatal crash after a dual-cab ute and a truck collided in the South West Tuesday morning. Police confirmed a 29-year-old man after the tragic accident at the intersection of Spurr Street and Bussell Highway about 9am. Emergency services attended the scene, confirming the man died as a result of his injuries. Police said it was too early to say if anyone else was injured in the crash, or if there were any passengers in either vehicle. It is understood the ute was travelling south on Bussell Highway when in collided with the rear of an oversized truck which was turning from Spurr Street on to Bussell Highway northbound. The car, truck and its two pilot vehicles remain at the scene, with debris covering the left-hand lane of Bussell Highway southbound at the intersection. The northbound lanes on Bussell Highway are both still open, while the southbound lanes are being directed on to Stirling Road to the west and Capel Drive to the east. South West District Police Superintendent Geoff Stewart said the section of highway would remain closed off while emergency crews were still in attendance and while officers continued their investigations at the scene. He encouraged motorists to find an alternative route. Roughly 10 police were on site as well as traffic management at around 10:30 am this morning. The incident occurred at a notorious stretch of road, where Capel residents and road-safety authorities have campaigned for years for changes to the speed limit and road conditions.
