A Nannup lavender farm has been flooded by orders for a cuddly bear after a plug from a Chinese celebrity.

Ever since model and actress Zhang Xinyu endorsed a lavender-filled bear from Tasmania, they have been selling like hot cakes.

Nannup Lavender Farm owner Heather Walford has been inundated with enquiries from the start of November after Tasmania sold out.

“People were looking across Australia for these bears and suddenly we were on the radar, ” she said.

“We have had phone calls from the Eastern States and more recently groups of Chinese driving down from Perth to see if we had any bears left.

“They drive the 600km trip in one day in the hope that they may be able to buy a bear. They are pretty astute and all are keen to cash in on this bear’s popularity back in China. I have now seen them selling on Gumtree for $300.”

The farm has been selling lavender-filled bears called Lou Lou for a couple of years.

Now sold out, Ms Walford is still fielding orders from Chinese would-be lavender bear entrepreneurs.

She even had a couple who drove all the way from Perth but left empty handed after discovering there were no bears left.

“They plead with me to go on a waiting list, ” she said.

“Chinese New Year is coming up and they want to have bears for that.”
