Things are heating up at Busselton Hockey Association, with round two proving another hot contender across all divisions. All eyes were on the women’s league this week as Wests and Country’s Women went head-to-head in a 2021 elimination final rematch. In the sweltering heat of Friday night both teams pushed through, hungry for victory. Despite Country’s strong defence work, two unstoppable short corner strikes and a late field gold handed the Wests victory 3-0. Country’s goalkeeper Angela Babb said despite the dominant margin, is was a very close match. “It was a hard-fought game with some great plays on both sides, however, Wests were the dominant team,” she said. The Robins had an impressive win over Capel, taking them out 9-0 with two goals from Cindy Gordan, Kristy Streatfield and Eva Bailey For the men, it was the showdown between Margaret River Hockey Club and Jets Cavaliers that had everyone on edge in what spectators described a “fantastically played game”. These two teams went hard for four quarters with all payers giving a hundred per cent. Both goalies found themselves under immense pressure, but it was the two quick strikes from Logan Pilatti that pushed the Jets to a tight 3-2 win. Spectator Kylie Callow said the players are squaring up for a tough competition this season. “The men’s competition is looking incredibly tight for season 2022,” she said. “It was great . . . an absolute pleasure to be a spectator of this high-quality game.” While it wasn’t the match-up of the week Country’s Men obliterated Capel 16-0 with a massive five goals from star player Shay Krepp. In the masters division, it was another great week of competition on all fronts. Capel took out the Cougars 4-2, with Denholm Barrett-Lennard making notable performance with two goals. Margaret River dominated over Capel in a dramatic 5-0 victory, while the Jets prevailed over the Redbacks 3-0.
