Police happy with ‘generally good’ drivers over long weekend

The top cop in Dunsborough is happy with the majority of drivers who were “doing the right thing” on the roads over the long weekend, which also marked the start of the school holidays. Officer-in-charge Sgt Jon Adams said police conducted more than 1200 breath tests over the King’s Birthday long weekend and were pleased with the majority of drivers who did the right thing. While the majority were “generally good”, Sgt Adams said there was an increase of incidents due to the increase of cars on the roads. He said two people were caught drink-driving mid-morning Monday, with one also speeding at 10am with alcohol in their system. “People always ask us what’s the point of doing breath tests in the morning — what people don’t realise is that alcohol takes a long time to get out of your bloodstream,” Sgt Adams said. “A designated driver is so important, you don’t really know if the alcohol is going to be fully out of your system the next day.” Dunsborough police are set to increase their patrols as the weather gets warmer, especially ahead of the AFL grand final this Saturday.
