Busselton soccer fan Mick Williamson recently received the birthday present of a lifetime when he was signed up as the shirt sponsor at a Leeds United game.

Mr Williamson was celebrating his 50th birthday in the UK earlier this month when wife Rosemarie revealed the big surprise.

As shirt sponsor at the Leeds United v Reading match, Mr Williamson met the players, presented the man of the match award, received a signed shirt and had his photograph displayed in the match booklet and even on the big screen.

"I knew I was going to the game but I didn't know I was going to be VIP for the day," he said.

"She'd been organising it for a while.

"When I put my suit on, I thought 'this isn't normal'."

The result of the match was a draw but Mr Williamson enjoyed the day.

"It was the best 50th present you could have asked for," he said.

"I've supported Leeds since I've lived over here and I never thought I'd go to a game again."
