SWNFL 2022: South Bunbury notch first win in 13-goal victory over Carey Park
After a number of close finishes, South Bunbury Tigers have finally notched their first win of the 2022 SWNFL season, defeating Carey Park by 13 goals.
In a dynamic start to the match, Carey Park managed to build an early lead, only for South Bunbury to quickly catch up and level the score.
Both teams matched each other goal for goal with Zoe and Ebony Buck quickly driving the ball for Carey Park while South Bunbury’s Ella Dowsett managed several long-range shots.
South Bunbury held a two-point advantage at quarter time.
In the second quarter South Bunbury extended their lead following a sharp interception by Majella Bouwman, along with an impressive display by Grace Craigie in goal defence.
Although South Bunbury tried to pull away, accurate shots on goal by the likes of Ebony Buck and Taylah Roberts helped Carey Park stay in the contest, and they trailed by just two goals at half-time.
Following the main break, South Bunbury had a fast start as they attempted to increase their lead.
Despite Carey Park’s best efforts to put the pressure on, they struggled to convert as South Bunbury extended their advantage.
At the final change, South Bunbury led 39-28, blowing the margin out to 11 goals.
Despite Carey Park trying their hardest to make a comeback during the final quarter, South Bunbury proved too strong and held on to win 51-36.
Elsewhere, Busselton Magpies held on to top spot on the ladder, edging out Bunbury Bulldogs 53-51 in a thrilling contest at Geographe Leisure Centre.
