A funny video of Queen Elizabeth visting Vasse Primary school students, during her 2000 visit to Busselton has made headlines around the globe, the clip showing one student asking “whose nanna is that?”.

The footage captures Vasse Primary school students failing to recognise the Queen when she and Prince Philip visited the school on their last Royal Tour to the town.

The school’s former principal, Brian Devereux, told the ABC that a child asked, “Whose Nanna is that?” upon meeting the Queen.

“I got sent an article from London from The Daily Telegraph saying that clearly education in Australia was lacking somewhat, because these children at this particular school didn’t know who Her Majesty was,” Mr Devereux said.

The footage shows a Vasse Primary student failing to recognise Her Majesty.

A bemused Queen heads toward another student who asks her, “What’s your name?”

Despite these slight hiccups, Mr Devereux described the visit as “lovely”, the Queen very attentive to everyone she met.

“It was a particularly special day, I must admit, it was just lovely,” Mr Devereux said.

“She was quite personable, she paid attention to everything she was told.”

The Queen’s 2000 visit was the second during her reign, the first visit taking place in 1954 during her coronation tour.

The Queen and Prince Philip visited in Busselton on March 31, 2000 towards the end of their two-week stay in Australia.
