Boyanup lead the way in women’s and men’s South West Hockey League after six rounds

There is a sense of déjà vu around the South West Hockey League, with Boyanup leading both the men’s and women’s leagues after the first six rounds. Each team in both the male and female competitions have played each other at least once and the respective ladders are starting to take shape. In the women’s, Boyanup sit level with 2021 runners up Associates on points but have a nine-goal buffer on goal difference. The women’s side dropped their first points of the year in a round-five grand final rematch five when they drew 3-3 with the Associates side. Busselton-based side Robins sit in third on the women’s ladder and are seven points behind the top two, but three points ahead of Marist. Towns/Souths and Exies both sit in last on three points, having taken a win each from their two clashes in round one and six. In the men’s competition, Boyanup remain undefeated despite being tested by Marist at the weekend. The ladder leaders scored first through Jarrod Booth, but Marist’s Alby Lawrence levelled the scoring before 2021 premiership hero Brayden Dalton scored a late winner to secure a 2-1 victory. Busselton side Wests sit in second on the ladder on 13 points and are trailed by Towns/Souths by three points. Marist round out the top four on eight points, with Associates and Exies sitting at the bottom with one and zero wins respectively. Associates coach Kiri O’Brien said last week she was proud of her team’s efforts so far. “Obviously we need to get points on the board,” she said. “We are definitely in a rebuild stage, but we need to learn how to be consistent, it can’t just be a quarter, it needs to be a full game.”
