Bunbury to host HBL in battle for second as teams make late push for finals spots
Bunbury will play Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at the weekend with several South West Football League teams looking to make a late push into finals positions.
The two teams sit second and third on 44 points and 40 points respectively and will meet on Sunday at Payne Park.
The sides will see the game as a chance to close up to South Bunbury — who are still unbeaten, but have a bye this weekend.
Both teams come into the game in good form, and while Bunbury were made to work for their 14.6 (90) to 12.8 (80) win over Carey Park last week, they had won their previous four games by at least 90 points.
HBL fell to a shock 9.4 (58) to 12.9 (81) loss to Busselton last round, breaking a five game winning streak which included a 166-point win over their cross-shire rivals Harvey Bulls.
Last time the teams met was round five when HBL took the win 14.11 (95) to 12.13 (85) despite five goals from Bunbury’s Joel Houghton.
In the women’s fixture, Bunbury will go in as heavy favourites in third position with a goal percentage of close to 500.
HBL have struggled to find consistency and when the sides last met last, Bunbury took the win 7.10 (52) to 2.0 (12).
Donnybrook men will try to continue their push for finals as they take on Collie in Boyanup on Saturday.
The Dons currently sit just one win away from Augusta Margaret River who are in fifth place and will be expected to comfortably get on top of their struggling opponents.
In the women’s fixture, Donnybrook will also be looking to sneak into the finals spots in their match up against Collie.
A win would be enough to put Donnybrook equal on points to Dunsborough in fifth, but they’ll need a big percentage boost to rise up into the last finals spot.
Busselton’s men will match up against Eaton at Glen Huon Reserve, and will be buoyed by a surprise win last week which left them four points behind a finals spots. They will fancy their chances over the 10th placed Boomers.
Busselton women are sitting nicely in second spot.
After a week off last round, AMR men will be keen to get a win to rise to fourth when they host Dunsborough at Gloucester Park.
Dunsborough sit in ninth currently and are chasing their fourth win of the season.
