Busselton coach Daniel Delaney ready to get back on winners list against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault

New Busselton coach Daniel Delaney has said he is comfortable with where his side is at going into their clash with Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault, despite being winless since the defeated reigning premiers Augusta-Margaret River in a grand final rematch round one. Delaney said the opening three rounds of AMR, South Bunbury and Bunbury were never going to be easy for the 2022 runners-up, but this week’s game against the Lions was a big opportunity to get back on the winners list. HBL sit second last on the ladder and are yet to earn a point, but Delaney said the Magpies needed to beware the wounded Lion. “We are really looking forward to this weekend and the boys are up and about which is good,” he said. “You can’t underestimate any team in the South West this year, but I think we have a very good list. “We just need to go into the game expecting a tough one, but there is no doubt about it that we are keen to get back on the winners list and put our best foot forward.” Delaney said there was no need to panic yet, but admitted his side needed to beat the top sides if they wanted to go one better than their runner-up finishing place last year. “It doesn’t matter if you play those teams in the first three games or at the back end of the round, you have to play them at some stage,” he said. “We are comfortable with where we sit at the moment, but there is no doubt about it we need to get wins on the board. “You don’t go deep into finals unless you beat the top teams.” After a horror early draw, Busselton plays HBL, Carey Park, Donnybrook and Collie in their next four games before facing Eaton and then Harvey. Delaney said he was hoping his side could skyrocket up the ladder in the next six rounds, but that starts this week. “We probably have six really winnable games in front of us and we’re really keen to get stuck into it,” he said. “We just want to focus on ourselves, playing our game and not worrying about the things we can’t control. “I think that will put us in good stead and get us to where we need to be.”
