Keen trail runners should get their diaries ready to save the date as a new trail festival comes to Collie.

The Collie Trail Fest will head to town in April, with more than 1000 participants expected to experience the weekend of adventure.

Event director Melina Mellino said the trail festival was the beginning of something big for Collie.

Collie has some really special trails that I haven’t experienced anywhere else and it’s quickly getting flagged on the ‘must-do list’ for adventurers.

“You’re welcomed the moment you arrive in town with trail signage and it oozes cool adventure trail town.”

The brand new event will take place on April 17 to 18 and will see runners travel across new scenic trails that will be both breathtaking and challenging.

Saturday’s race will require a headlamp as runners explore the trails in a night-time event with reflective flagging tape and fairy lights to guide runners around the single track.

The following morning’s race will feature three distances — a 22km half-marathon, 10km and 5km trail race.

Ms Mellino said she was excited to bring two days of running together in Collie and for the boosts this may bring to the town.

“The feedback we’ve received so far is that once people participate in an event they’re drawn back to visit multiple trips throughout the year,” she said.

“The sister event, the Pemby Trail Fest, is the largest trail weekend in WA and we know that Collie has the potential to grow even bigger.”

All abilities are encouraged to get involved and register their interest for the weekend, with event organisers preaching a “walk or run, all about fun” motto for the 5km race.
