Dunsborough’s Lance Morris made an impressive start to his 2021-22 Marsh One-Day Cup campaign on Monday. Morris was called in for his third List A match alongside left-armer Liam Guthrie to replace Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff. The young right-arm quick was in the action straight away as he removed South Australian captain and Ashes hopeful Travis Head for 28 with just his third delivery. Morris was able to seam the ball away from the left-hander, who was caught on the crease and feathered an edge to WA wicketkeeper Josh Philippe. The 23-year-old Morris bowled the most overs of any bowler in the rain-affected match and had the best economy, finishing with figures of 1-36 off eight. Fellow South West star Sam Whiteman missed out with the bat in the Warriors innings, as he was removed for seven off 23 balls. The former Colts Cricket Club batter was unable to control a short ball from Redbacks’ Brendan Doggett, which he pulled to Wes Agar on the fine-leg boundary. In the WBBL, Bunbury’s Chloe Piparo is averaging 30 with the bat for the Perth Scorchers, who face the Adelaide Strikers on Saturday.
