‘Old Friends and New’: a classical concert to be held at Happs Winery

Perth-based string quartet Darlington Quartet and mezzo soprano singer Caitlin Hulcup are joining forces for a concert this September. Held at Happs Winery, the concert titled Old Friends and New highlights the performers’ long-term friendships and their shared love of music. “A lot of us go back a long way, I’ve known Caitlin since we were about 14, so it’s really nice for us to come back and see each other again, make music again and reacquaint ourselves with each other,” Darlington Quartet member Semra Lee said. “It’s a concert of music that we love and we’re doing lots of different combinations that we are excited to share.” The Darlington String Quartet name came about through its association with the successful Darlington Chamber Music Series, which celebrates its 20th year in 2023. Having played together for decades, the members of the quartet officially formed their ensemble in 2016. All members are highly accomplished musicians with extensive performance histories across all aspects of classical music, such as soloists, chamber musicians, orchestral section principals and mentors. “We will mostly be performing classical, we’ve got a couple of folk songs that we’re doing as well,” Lee said. “Caitlin will do some songs with us as well, we’ve got a couple of things that were just soprano and we added string quartet, which are really beautiful pieces and we’re really looking for looking forward to having the chance to do that.” The event will be held on Wednesday, September 13, at Happs Winery at 5:30pm.
