Regurgitator lead signer Quan Yeomans ‘can’t wait’ for Dunsborough Hotter Than Hell rock festival

For most of Generation X, the mention of Brisbane-formed rock band Regurgitator will bring back nostalgic memories of one of the Australian soundtracks to the late 1990s, the societally-critical Polyester Girl. But what many might not know is the band also has connections with their demographic’s grandkids — Generation Alpha. As a side project, Regurgitator released a children’s album in 2019 and has even taken to performing it live to some of their biggest young fans. For lead singer Quan Yeomans, it was a much tougher gig than playing to their usual crowd. “I actually found it really much harder playing to a toddler audience, because they are really hard to read,” he said. “I never get nervous before a Regurgitator show, but for the (children’s) Pogogo Show I just found myself really anxious before every single show, not knowing what to expect.” That said, Yeomans shouldn’t struggle when the band visit the Dunsborough Tavern next month as part of the Hotter Than Hell Festival tour. It is far from the first time Regurgitator has played in the South West, playing as the support act for Midnight Oil’s farewell show in Busselton in 2022 and Groovin’ The Moo festival in Bunbury in 2019. Yeomans said he was “over the moon” to be playing at Hotter Than Hell. “I can’t wait,” he said. “We always get to play these incredible festivals and this one is no exception. The 90s bands that we have been hanging out with lately and getting to know again, it’s been a joy. “I haven’t actually seen the two other American bands for a very long time, so that’ll be really cool as well.” Originally started as a side project for Yeomans and fellow founding members Ben Ely and Martin Lee, the band is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and recently released Invader — their 10th studio album. The lead signer said it was amazing to still be performing after so long. “As a band, I think we play better now than we ever have,” Yeomans said. “With the addition of a second guitarist Sarah (Lim), I think it just takes it to another level — which is great — and we love playing with each other.” The Hotter Than Hell festival will be at Dunsborough Tavern on October 12.
