As the AFL flocked to South Australia for Gather Round, the South West’s youngsters stepped up to the plate for their respective teams, with Dunsborough’s Reuben Ginbey notching another milestone.

The 18-year-old kicked his first AFL career goal during West Coast’s 21.10 (136) to 13.11 (89) loss to reigning premiers Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

As the Cats dominated with a 12-goal effort throughout the first half, Ginbey broke through to break their run in the late stages of the second quarter, converting on the run from 40m out.

After he was substituted off in the third quarter, Ginbey finished with nine disposals, four tackles, two score involvements, 18 pressure acts, two clearances and an inside 50.

Harvey’s Brady Hough put in a modest effort in the midst of a tough challenge across the half-back line, finishing with 11 disposals, two marks, a tackle, a goal assist, three score involvements, 17 pressure acts, a clearance and an inside 50.

Earlier in the round, Busselton’s Jye Amiss put in his best effort so far during Fremantle’s 15.10 (100) to 13.12 (90) win over Gold Coast at Norwood Oval on Friday.
