SWFL 2023: Relationships and care at the forefront of Delaney Livestock’s success

Although his side is the runaway leader on top of the SWFL ladder, Busselton league coach Daniel Delaney is also enjoying off-field team success. Together with his wife Joanne, the duo’s business — Delaney Livestock Services — has become a staple in regional WA agriculture. “My dad was a dairy farmer,” Delaney said. “And literally out of school, I started with a company which went around and did herd testing at dairies. An opportunity then came up in Manjimup believe it or not, around 1997-98, and I took a job with Wesfarmers. “So I went down there, played some footy and it went from there. After five years, I went across to Busselton and took over an independent business with Elders. “I spent 14 years there and then Joanne and I decided to start our own business, Delaney Livestock Services, which is pretty much based on the big companies. “I sell the cattle, Joanne does the books and we have a successful business with clients from Geraldton, through the South West and down to Esperance.” There is no shortage of travel and organisation required in Delaney’s job, however the pair’s relationships with clients are never taken for granted — whether they have a herd of five cattle or 500. “We start to ramp up right before the end of footy season — where it is pretty much working seven days a week through until the end of January,” he said. “I just work footy meetings and everything else in between it.”
