The six South West cricketers dominating in the big smoke with big seasons in WACA Premier Cricket

Some of them have made a name for themselves and gone on to bigger and better things, while others are dominating the grade cricket scene week-to-week. Here are the six South West cricketers who have had the best seasons in the WACA’s Premier Cricket competition this summer. Jayden Goodwin (Subiaco-Floreat) After returning prematurely from a religious mission and a break from cricket, his score of 131, a maiden first grade ton, was enough to see him make his debut for the State’s Sheffield Shield side. The punchy left-hander sits eighth on the run-scoring charts for the competition, which will be his main focus until domestic four-day cricket returns in February. Sam Whiteman (Fremantle) His incredible unbeaten 187 in November might have shot him towards the top of the run-scoring charts, but left Whiteman with serious concussion symptoms which would force him out of a trip to Queensland for a four-day and a one-day game. But it was also the launching pad for him to return to the WA side as captain, as a number of big names succumbed to injury. He has featured just three times for Fremantle this season and the Port Boys are unlikely to see much more of him, after an eleventh hour deal to play for the Sydney Thunder runs into his commitments at the top of the order in both red and white ball cricket for WA. Jacob Whiteaker (Claremont-Nedlands) Nearly 800 runs from just eight games squeezes Bunbury boy Whiteaker into Premier Cricket’s top 25 run-scorers for the season so far. An unbeaten 98 against University in round one built a strong foundation for his 11th season of first grade cricket and the opening batter has made two more 50s in first grade cricket since. Liam Dallimore (South Perth) After tasting success for the first time since moving from Fremantle in the Premier T20 tournament last year, Dallimore has gone wicketless just once this summer across all formats and has an average of just under 20 in both the first grade and T20 tournaments. He mostly opens the bowling and has taken on a leadership role in a South Perth side stacked with South West products, including former Hay Park Redback Graham Yates and Busselton’s Fraser Thompson. Tyler Robertson (Rockingham-Mandurah) The former Colts Cricket Club captain has bounced around the grades at Rockingham-Mandurah this year, but a second grade 50 in a one-day game against Bayswater-Morley saw him promoted to the top side and a 66 in a massive win over Joondalup ensured he stays there. He is also contributing with the ball for the Mariners, bowling in all but two of their games this season. Ross Knoll (Midland-Guilford) It hasn’t been the perfect season in black and white for Knoll just yet, but a match-winning 61 at the top of the order against reigning premiers Wanneroo was easily the highlight. It is the top order batter’s second season at Lilac Hill after a three-year spell at Willeton since moving from Hay Park in 2016. He nailed two second grade hundreds last season, but is becoming an established member of the first grade side this summer.
