Two late South West football community stalwarts to be honoured in round 14 of SWFL league

Two members of the South West football community who left a lasting impact will be recognised in this weekend’s SWFL league games. Round 14 will see the late Sam Strano and Chris Sheehan honoured by their clubs Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Donnybrook, respectively. The Sam Strano Cup will be hosted on Saturday afternoon, seeing the Lions face off against their cross-shire rivals Harvey Bulls at Brunswick Oval. It is the second year the contest has been held, honouring the HBL life member’s connection to the two clubs. The home side took out the inaugural contest last year and are favourites against their struggling competitors up the road. Donnybrook will host Augusta-Margaret River at its temporary Boyanup home on Sunday for the Chris Sheehan memorial game. The match is named after the Dons’ former skipper, who died suddenly following an off-road motorcycle accident in 2015. Sheehan played more than 200 games in the blue-and-white, and was known for his dedication to the club. The match will see Donnybrook return to the field after a three-week break, in a must-win game for both clubs to keep their chances at a finals spot alive. Sunday’s match between Eaton and Collie is set to determine the likely wooden spooner with the bottom of the ladder clash taking place at Glen Huon Reserve. Both sides have won only one match so far — the Boomers’ coming against the Eagles in the opening round, and Collie’s win over Carey Park in round three. The Panthers will be seeking to cling on to their top-four position at Kelly Park on Sunday when they face a shell-shocked Busselton Magpies following their round 13 thumping. South Bunbury will continue their first-placed march on Saturday afternoon at Hands Oval when they face off against Dunsborough. The second-placed Bunbury have a bye.
