Fremantle will once again turn into a hub of community, culture, and creativity to celebrate WA Day on Monday, June 1.

The port city’s free event will mark the official celebrations for WA Day after the State’s major celebration in Burswood was pushed to November to avoid poor weather cancelling the party.

The Fremantle fishing boat harbour and Bathers Beach will come alive with live entertainment, cultural experiences, family fun and spectacular performances throughout the day.

Celebrate WA chair Scott Jones said the celebrations were one of the few free events providing fun for West Australian families.

“Free rides for all the children was a big hit last year. With cost of living it’s pretty tough so this really provides an opportunity for everyone to come together and have such a wonderful time to celebrate WA,” he said.

“Anyone and everyone that forms part of the DNA that makes up Western Australia, we’re hoping to have something that will recognise their heritage and culture and what it’s meant for us in WA.

Some of the key offerings include a Aboriginal corroboree led by elder James Webb and Wadumbah dance theatre, celebrating the State’s Aboriginal heritage, carnivale celebrations featuring Latin music, a mermaid aquarium, and a sunset fire performance.

A kids festival kingdom will be packed with interactive family fun including creative workshops, storytelling, and magical encounters with superheroes, unicorns and fairytale characters.

It will be among several events held throughout the State to mark the day with Broome becoming a part of the official celebrations for the first time this year.

Earlier in the week, the best of WA will be recognised with the Western Australian of the Year winners to be announced on May 28.

The Fremantle celebrations, proudly supported by BHP, the State Government, and Lotterywest, will be on from 11am to 6pm on June 1.
