Nature Wise and Wonderful - Words in Pictures from the Bush and Beach will be on display at ArtGeo Gallery from this weekend as part of a month-long exhibition by Bunbury's Sue Kalab.

Kalab will showcase 23 pieces which focus on a woman's perspective of walking the earth and other environmental concepts such as migratory birds, black cockatoos and nature's finds.

The exhibition has been a long time in the making for the artist, who began planning it this time last year and painting six to eight months ago.

Kalab said people often asked how long it took her to paint a piece and said many didn't realise how many layers go into some artworks.

"There's so much work involved in each one," she said.

"There's just layers and layers of colour."

Kalab said she used to live in a national park in Victoria and she said she had been painting nature for about 30 years.

"I never sort of chose it. It chose me," she said.

"And I've just stayed with it."

Kalab's exhibition will form a backdrop for a series of public seminars on nature conservation conducted by scientists and volunteers.

The seminars have been planned to coincide with various world environment days.

The exhibition at ArtGeo Gallery will be officially opened tomorrow at 3pm.
