A house has been badly damaged by fire in Mount Pleasant in the early hours of Wednesday, with firefighters suspecting it was deliberately lit.

Emergency services were called to the home on Ullapool Road about 3.17am, with DFES understood to have reported that the fire appeared to have started at the front door.

Neighbours reported hearing a loud bang before a car was heard screeching away from the scene.

The fire caused significant damage throughout the home but nearby cars appeared to have been spared.

Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform to tackle the heavy flames and smoke.

A section of Ullapool Road remained closed by police until around 7am.

A white arson squad van arrived out the front of the property shortly after 8am, with officers setting up blue and white police tape.

On the driveway of the home, written in thick red paint, are the words: “Pay your debt dog.”

The house has significant fire damage, with the roof collapsed in and smoke marks across the garage and front facade.
