Perth’s new high-rise school being built next to the former home of WA football is likely to include a nod to Subiaco in its name.

The Education Department said consultation was still taking place to name the school under construction next to Subiaco Oval, which until now has been known by the planning name of “Inner City College”.

Of the four names under consideration, three include a reference to Subiaco.

An advisory group made up of parents, members of the local community and principals of nearby primary schools has proposed four possible names for the school, which is expected to open in 2020.

They are Inner City College, Subiaco College, Subiaco Community College and Subiaco Secondary College.

The department said an online survey closed recently and the new school’s principal, John Burke, was working with students at primary schools in the local intake area to get their views.

A short list of names would then be submitted to Education Minister Sue Ellery for the final decision.

The Subiaco school, which will eventually cater for up to 2000 students, is expected to ease enrolments pressure on Churchlands Senior High School and Shenton College.
