Zailn Hayward: Homicide squad appeal to anyone who saw man on e-scooter before alleged murder victim found

The homicide squad are investigating whether multiple people murdered a homeless man before his body was discovered on a walking track in Yanchep bushland. Zailn Jahson Hayward, 27, was found dead on a gravel track near Grampians Loop — about 54km north of Perth — around 6.40pm on March 1. In an update on Tuesday, WA Police homicide detectives were urging anyone who was around the areas of Grampians Loop, Blackwood Meander and Marmion Avenue in Yanchep on March 1 to come forward. “In particular, detectives are interested in anyone who may have also sighted a man on an e-scooter in the area at the time,” the update said. “The investigation remains ongoing including into the involvement of other parties.” WA Police haven’t revealed how Mr Hayward died, only that 30-year-old Rivervale man Warren Robert Collard has been charged with his alleged murder. Another second man was initially assisting police with inquires. The West previously revealed how Mr Hayward was sleeping rough and had set-up camp in the area, where he had been living for several months since moving out of a house in Alkimos. The victim was known to police and was sentenced to three years and six months jail in 2022 over a violent attack on his then 81-year-old neighbour in Balga. Mr Hayward was released within a few months when taking into account time already served. The 27-year-old posted a series of nonsensical and sexual videos on his Facebook and YouTube accounts in the weeks before his death, which showed his camp set-up in Yanchep bushland.
