Winter is officially here and it’s certainly making its presence felt with some areas of WA waking up to temperatures as low as 3.5C.

Pearce in Perth’s eastern suburbs was the city’s coldest place to be, with the temperature dropping as low as 4.9C this morning.

Meanwhile some parts of the State shivered through an even colder morning, with Gin Gin recording the lowest temperature at 3.5C, while Warburton hit 4.2C and Collie and Wandering both recorded 4.7C.

But you won’t need your coats and scarves for too long — today’s CBD temperature is set to hit a balmy 20C this afternoon.

Tomorrow will be slightly cooler, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a minimum of 6C in the morning. But once again it will warm up later in the day, increasing to a maximum of 19C in the afternoon.

Sadly though, the fine weather won’t last for long. Wet and windy conditions are expected to set in on Saturday and last through Sunday, before clearing up again on Monday.

It was a similar story for Perth last weekend. Heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds lashed the State after a severe weather warning was issued.

Albany Airport recorded the highest rainfall in the state over the weekend, recording 105.8mm in just 72 hours.

However, WA is expected to have a warmer-than-usual winter this year, according to the Weather Bureau’s winter climate outlook released last week.

It showed night-time temperatures are expected to be warmer than average for the majority of the country.

Coastal areas in particular are likely to have days that are warmer than average.

Yet it was only on Monday that WA’s most famous peak — Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges — had its first snowfall in eight months after the State shivered though one of its coldest of the year.
