Perth weather: Records tumble as city posts fifth successive 40C day

Perth has reached 40C for the fifth day in a row, breaking yet another weather record for the State.

The previous record was set just under a month ago when the city sweltered through four successive 40C days during the Christmas period.

Saturday marks Perth’s tenth 40C day for the season which continues to smash the previous record — broken on Thursday — of seven days achieved in the summer of 2015/16.

However, it seems the 40C streak may be over with the forecast predicting a top of 38C on Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned people of high temperatures continuing for another day but said “relief arrives on Monday with temperatures dropping to the low 30s”.

Perth’s long-range weather forecast:

Sunday: 23-38C

Monday: 18-33C

Tuesday: 16-31C

Wednesday: 16-31C

Thursday: 18-33C

Friday: 18-35C
