Perth Heat hit back impressively from losing the opening two games at Melbourne Ballpark this weekend to win their last two matches to be well positioned returning home.

The Heat came into Round 3 of the Australian Baseball League on the back of impressive 3-1 series victories away to Auckland Aratula and at home to Canberra Cavalry, but the Melbourne Aces were also going to be their sternest test to date.

That was emphasised on Friday night and the first game on Saturday with Melbourne recording 3-1 and 4-3 victories against the Heat, but Perth responded impressively over the next 24 hours.

The Heat responded to win the second half of the double-header on Saturday 9-7 and then backed up on Sunday with the 7-3 win to level the series at 2-2 and close Round 3 with an impressive 8-4 record.

It's now the second home series of the season for the Heat to look forward to this coming weekend at Harley-Davidson Ballpark and a real chance for the home team to get their game further in order against Geelong-Korea.

It has been a mixed start to the season for Geelong-Korea and they've suffered some heavy road losses including 25-4 this weekend to the Adelaide Bite.

But they've been more impressive at home winning five of eight games so they will come to Perth this weekend with a 5-7 record, and as a team the Heat can't afford to take lightly.

The Heat's first series at home for the 2019/20 season was a successful one winning three of the four games against Canberra at Harley-Davidson Ballpark so they will be looking to build on that in front of the home fans this weekend.

The series gets underway on Thursday night from 7pm with Game 2 on Friday and Game 3 on Saturday with the same starting times. The series wraps up on Sunday afternoon from 4pm.

As for this past weekend in Melbourne, it was a low-scoring grind on Friday night with the Aces setting up the 3-1 win on the back of three runs scored in the fifth inning.

The Heat did score in the eight inning courtesy of Tim Kennelly, but their hopes of scoring further were closed when Pete Kozma tried to turn a Jordan Qsar single into a double. Dylan Unsworth took the loss as pitcher for Perth.

Next up in the first game on Saturday at Melbourne Ballpark saw the Aces take the early lead with a run in the first inning to Hayato Nishiura.

It only took until the third inning for the Heat to respond and take the lead with Alex Hall and Kennelly managing to score on the back of an inning that included three singles (one on a fielder error) and a walk for the visitors.

The Heat still led 3-2 late in the game after Kennelly hit a homerun in the fifth inning, but the Aces had the last say of the game scoring twice in the seventh, and final, inning to take the 4-3 win.

Perth shook off that disappointment in Game 3 on Saturday night with an impressive offensive performance. It got underway with five runs in the third inning for the Heat on the back of a single to Robbie Glendinning, and doubles to Kaleo Johnson and Niko Hulsizer.

While the Aces answered with four of their own runs in the same inning and then added three more in the bottom of the fourth to go up 7-5, Perth secured the win with a dominant fifth.

The Heat produced four runs on the back of another double from Glendinning, a single from Johnson and a couple of walks. That would end up giving the Heat the 9-7 win with pitcher Nick Veale earning his second win of the season.

Attention was then onto the season-closer on Sunday and both teams started impressively with two runs apiece in the first inning. But the Heat took a 3-2 lead when Alex Hall scored in the second.

It took until the bottom of the eighth for the next score and that went the way of the home team.

But Glendinning then delivered a grand slam home run to centre field to provide the winning four runs as he, Kennelly, Kozma and Qsar all scored to leave the Heat returning home with plenty of momentum ahead of hosting Geelong-Korea this week.
