Jaylen Brown has scored 33 points and the NBA-leading Boston Celtics won their eighth straight game, beating a short-handed Detroit 129-102 in the Motor City.

Boston improved to 56-15 on Saturday (AEDT) atop the Eastern Conference, while the Pistons are tied with the Washington Wizards (12-58) at the bottom -- 44 games behind the Celtics.

Peyton Pritchard added 20 points and Derrick White had 19 points and 11 assists, while Jayson Tatum sat out to rest an ankle for the second time in five days, also missing Tuesday's 119-94 home victory over the same opposition.

James Wiseman had a season-high 24 points for the home side, who have dropped nine straight against Boston.

Tied at at 43 in the second period, the Celtics enjoyed a 47-21 run to take a 90-64 lead with 6:10 left in the third.

In Toronto, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 23 points in his only regular-season trip to his home country, Chet Holmgren had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Oklahoma City pulled away late to beat the undermanned Raptors 123-103.

Jalen Williams added 20 points, Kenrich Williams and Cason Wallace each had 12 and Australian Josh Giddey 10 as the Western Conference-leading Thunder (49-20) won their fourth straight. They also improved to 21-13 on the road and extended Toronto's season-worst losing streak to nine.

Before the game, Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. (back) was ruled out to leave the hosts without seven players, including all five regular starters.

They made a season-worst 27 turnovers. OKC scored 37 points off those miscues, the most Toronto have allowed in any game this season.

Oklahoma City trailed by seven after the first quarter but opened the second with a 15-2 run, taking a 45-37 lead on a Giddey three-pointer with 9:08 left in the half. The Thunder were up 63-56 at halftime and took an 89-78 lead to the fourth.

There were also wins for teams coming third, fourth, fifth and ninth in the west.

The Minnesota Timberwolves beat Cleveland 104-91 and the Los Angeles Clippers held off Portland, for whom Aussie Duop Reath had 13 points in the 125-117 loss.

The New Orleans Pelicans thrashed the Heat 111-88 in Miami and the LA Lakers were 101-94 victors over Philadelphia.

Indiana and Memphis also tasted success.
