In 2006, Paul Roos’ Sydney was the team that outmuscled Fremantle in a preliminary final to snuff out Justin Longmuir’s last hope of winning a premiership as a player.

Two decades on, Roos will be the man who hands Longmuir his medal as a premiership coach if the Dockers can snare their historic flag.

Roos was on Monday confirmed as the presenter for this year’s Jock McHale Medal, which is awarded to the winning coach on grand final day.

The former Swans mentor joins a string of greats who will have roles on grand final day.

Paul Chapman will hand out the Norm Smith Medal, 17 years after snaring the award in Geelong’s 2009 triumph, while Richmond great Roger Dean will present the Ron Barassi Medal to the winning captain.

Four-time Hawthorn premiership star turned Seven analyst Luke Hodge was also unveiled as the premiership cup ambassador across the month of September.

The AFL will wait until grand final week to reveal which past legends of the two competing clubs will get the honour of handing over the premiership cup.

Speaking on Monday, AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said it was “fitting we recognise individuals who have helped shape some of those biggest moments in AFL/VFL finals history”.

“Luke, Paul, Roger and Paul have each left a lasting mark on our game through premiership success, leadership, coaching and individual brilliance on the biggest stage and we are delighted they will play a role in celebrating the achievements throughout the Toyota AFL Finals Series,” he said.
