Fremantle are set to regain captain Alex Pearce for Saturday’s blockbuster trip to face two-time reigning premiers Brisbane, but they are still sweating on the health of Hayden Young.

The Dockers captain has missed the past two games against Essendon and St Kilda due to a knee injury, but trained strongly on Tuesday, taking part in match simulation drills.

While he was still listed as a test on Tuesday in the club’s official injury list, coach Justin Longmuir confirmed he would be available for this weekend.

“He got through training really well today and did some top-up after training and felt really good and declared himself fit,” he told 7NEWS.

“We still got to make sure he pulls up well tomorrow but things are looking good for him.”

It will likely see Pearce take on Lions forward Logan Morris, though he also engaged in drills with Sean Darcy and Mason Cox, with Brisbane ruck Sam Draper likely to rotate through the forward line.

The news is less promising for midfield star Hayden Young, who was still listed as a test to return from a concussion.

Despite being out of the required 12-day window, Young was not sighted at Tuesday’s training.

“He’s still a test for this stage,” Longmuir said.

“He’s still in the concussion protocol, so he’s got to tick certain boxes, and if he gets through and ticks those boxes by Thursday when we get on the plane, he’ll be a chance.

“But there’s still a few hurdles to get over.”

Speaking on Darcy, Beard said he will also be available for selection, though he will not make a return straight back into the AFL.

The 27-year-old has not played since round five due to a concussion followed by a calf injury, allowing Cox to play a servicaeble role as Luke Jackson’s back-up.

Given that Darcy was being carefully managed this season, playing on average just 50 per cent of game time across the first five rounds due to a pre-season calf injury, and the long travel time to the Lions, the Dockers will err on the side of caution and build him back up to the WAFL.

“Sean got through training really well and is moving really well, and backed up a big session from Saturday,” Longmuir said.

“He’ll be ready for minutes this week, he’ll play at Peel and play around 80 minutes, and we’ll look to build his fitness and form through the WAFL this stage.”

His loss has been compounded by star Caleb Serong, who is still another week away after picking up a calf injury in the lead-up to their match against St Kilda.

There was no update on defender Brandon Walker, who picked up back-to-back concussions at WAFL level with any potential return still not known.
