On a dirty night for Fremantle supporters, some took their anger at the performance too far with a brawl erupting in the stands in the latter stages of Thursday night’s defeat.

The Dockers were stunned by Hawthorn in their qualifying final, falling to their first defeat at Optus Stadium in 2026 that leaves their premiership hopes on a knife-edge.

But late in the fourth quarter, a small section of fans put in an even poorer performance with a fight breaking out on the fifth level of Optus Stadium.

In a viral video, Hawthorn fans were seen desperately trying to hold back a Fremantle supporter who appeared to be attacking a man sitting in his seat while others surrounded him.

Fans from both teams were trying to de-escalate the brawl from widening, attempting to stop other hot-headed supporters from getting involved.

WA Police said they are aware of the footage being circulated of an alleged altercation, but no formal complaint has been received in relation to the incident at this time.

One man was issued a Move on Notice in relation to disorderly behaviour in a separate incident, but the game concluded without any significant incident.

It capped off a disappointing night all round as a record 59,446 Fremantle strong crowd witnessed a horror 32-point defeat.

It extends their AFL record of playing in front of a home crowd greater than 50,000 for the 10th week running, which will likely tick over to 11 for the semifinal against either Geelong or Carlton next week.
