VideoAFL champion Tony Modra has been released from hospital 19 days after suffering life-altering injuries in a truck crash in South Australia.

Fremantle star Hayden Young remains an outside chance to face Sydney on Thursday after the Dockers released their injury update on Tuesday.

Young failed to play out the game against GWS, subbed off at the third-quarter break with a groin injury, the latest frustrating setback for the injury-prone midfielder.

However, after scans cleared him of any major damage, the 25-year-old could still suit up to face the Swans with the club listing him as a test.

“Hayden had a groin issue during the Giants game and couldn’t complete the game. He did some straight-line running today at main training, and we’ll see how he pulls up; he’ll be a test,” director of performance Adam Beard said.

It comes as key defender Brennan Cox was cleared of any concerns, not listed on the report, despite tweaking his knee in the loss and training with the rehab group on Tuesday.

However, despite the positive news, coach Justin Longmuir admitted that the short break between games means Young faces an uphill battle to prove his fitness.

“He’d be a chance to get up if it wasn’t a five-day break,” Longmuir said on Tuesday.

“A five-day break is going to make it pretty tight for him.

In a boost for the visitors, Sydney small forward Tom Papley looks set for his first game in two months, having recovered from a calf injury and is listed as a test.

Jeremy Sharp, who missed the WAFL at the weekend with illness, could be a left-field option to replace Young after being declared fit, having played two games earlier this season.

Untested forward Charlie Nicholls has joined Sam Sturt on the sidelines after breaking his finger in a training accident, forcing the 20-year-old to undergo surgery.

“He’s had to go and see a surgeon today, and he’ll have surgery tomorrow. Once we see how well he pulls up from the surgery, we can gather timelines for everybody,” Beard said.
