After being overlooked for an AFL debut last week, Josh Treacy walked into Justin Longmuir’s office to chat about how he could press his claims for a call-up.

Turns out he was wasting his time - in the best possible way.

The Fremantle coach confirmed to Treacy that he was already in the side to make his much-anticipated debut, with the forward set to line up against Hawthorn at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

“I just wanted to see where I’m at, if there’s anything holding me back,” Treacy asked the Dockers coach in vision released by the club.

“Or if there’s anything I need to add to my weaponry to make me stand out.”

Longmuir’s reply was the best possible news for the 18-year-old.

“The answer is no, mate. The answer is that you’re in the team this week,” Longmuir said.

Treacy will bolster a Fremantle forward line still missing Rory Lobb and preparing to cope with the fresh blows to Lachie Schultz (concussion) and Sam Switkowski (finger) after the small forward duo were impressive in the Dockers’ round two win over GWS.

Longmuir backed Treacy to thrive in Sunday’s expected wet conditions.

“I reckon you’re one of our best ball-handlers, and one of our best kicks forward of centre,” he said.

“Your aggression in the wet is going to be important.”

Treacy showed what he’s capable of in a WAFL pre-season scratch match for Peel Thunder against Claremont last month, booting a game-high seven majors in a dominant performance.

He had an interrupted lead-up to the season after getting rubbed out for two weeks for a high tackle in the WAFL which left Perth’s Brady Grey concussed.

The ban was made more complicated due to the AFL’s ruling that it must be served in the competition it was given, with the WAFL and AFL starting dates a fortnight apart.

That rule was later changed.

Fellow Dockers forward Michael Walters said he was “pumped” to see Treacy earn his chance.

“He’s one of those players ever since he’s got to the club, he’s done nothing but try and improve,” he said.

“It’s good to see him reap the rewards because he’s one of those quality players up forward.

“He’s a strong target. He’s a big boy but his skills are something to watch so it’s good to see him getting an opportunity this week”

The Dockers will name their full side tomorrow afternoon, with the club also needing to find a replacement for rising defender Hayden Young.

Young missed the second half of last weekend’s loss to Carlton with a hamstring strain.
