Having been randomly selected to pick a runner the lucky punter backed eventual winner Rekindling to take home the million dollar prize.

And all he did to be considered for the draw was place a winning $5 each way bet on Land of Plenty in race three at Flemington on Cup Day.

Once that had come in second he went in to the randomly generated draw for the big one.

Now they’re a million dollars richer.

People across the country have taken to social media to congratulate the winner... and commiserate TAB.

It was a pretty epic win for the lucky punter, but it was never going to end badly.

Even if they didn’t back the eventual winner, they still would have walked away with a more than handy $10,000.
