Superstar Kiwi Sophie Devine is back for her seventh season in orange as Perth Scorchers re-sign a key piece of their WBBL championship puzzle on a one-year deal.
Devine has led the team since WBBL06, where she spearheaded the franchise’s maiden trophy win, and is poised to take up the captaincy again as Perth attempts to avenge last season’s grand final defeat to Hobart.
The New Zealand all-rounder has been one of the most dominant forces in world cricket across the past decade, but is now retired from all forms of International competition, meaning her full focus can be on the Scorchers.
The 37-year-old revealed the disappointment of grand final defeat would drive her and the group towards success this season.
“I’m passionate about playing for the Scorchers, and I’m feeling really grateful to have re-signed for another year,” she said.
“It was disappointing not to go all the way last year, but I’m looking forward to hopefully pushing one step further.
“We’ve got a great core group of players, a strong mix of local talent alongside some exciting overseas players, and I’m confident we can continue to grow as a team again this year.
“The support we’ve got at the WACA Ground is second to none from the Furnace days to now, with the new redevelopment, we can’t wait to play in front of our home Members and fans, getting behind us.”
The Scorchers revealed on Thursday English all-rounder Freya Kemp had also returned to the club after impressing in her first season at the franchise last year.
Perth still have five slots to fill ahead of the season getting underway on October 29.
