Fresh from her breakthrough Arena Games title, Australian triathlete Sophie Linn looms as a wildcard in the Japan leg of the world championship series.

Olympic champion Flora Duffy's ongoing recovery from a knee injury means there is no clear favourite for Saturday's race in the port city of Yokohama.

After collecting bronze in the team relay at last year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Linn's career took another step forward last month when the Adelaide native took out the Arena Games overall title.

Linn finished third at the final round in London of the indoor series to claim the overall win.

She has been training in Boulder, Colorado, since and Yokohama will be another signpost for the 28-year-old as the Paris Olympics loom into view.

"Yokohama will be my first world championship series race for the year and my first time racing (there) - so I'm going into it with an open mind and looking for a solid showing over all three legs," she said.

Linn is joined in Yokohama by her Birmingham teammates Natalie Van Coevorden, Matt Hauser, Jake Birtwhistle and Brandon Copeland.

Also racing is paratriathlete Lauren Parker, who aims to compete in triathlon and cycling at the Paralympics in Paris.

Parker made a statement with her international cycling debut last week, when she won the time trial and dead-heated in the road race at a Belgium World Cup event.

The 34-year-old, who claimed triathlon silver at the Tokyo Paralympics, has won nine-straight world para-tri events since.
