WAFL Colts 2022: Swan Districts get first win in premiership defence as West Perth remain undefeated

Riley Hardeman continued his incredible start to the WAFL colts season to inspire reigning premiers Swan Districts to their first victory of 2022.

Hardeman had a game-high 29 disposals as Swan Districts defeated Claremont 13.18 (96) to 8.2 (50) at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday.

The dynamic midfielder has emerged as the form player of the competition, averaging 27 disposals from four outings.

Teammate and AFL draft fancy Darcy Jones also had another day out, backing up his 44-disposal effort from last week with three goals from 19 touches.

West Perth remain undefeated after the first four rounds, with captain Kane Bevan and defender Luke Michael leading them to a 10.12 (72) to 7.9 (51) win over South Fremantle in Joondalup on Saturday.

Bevan, who is considered a first-round draft hopeful, had 22 disposals. But was upstaged by Michael, who took nine marks to go with 22 touches of his own in defence.

Recruit Seth Connor had 28 disposals for the Bulldogs, while Max Foreman kicked three goals.

A five-goal haul from Subiaco forward Koltyn Tholstrup was not enough for the Lions to get the victory over East Perth, with the Royals kicking three goals to two in the final term to win 12.3 (75) to 10.12 (72).

Tholstrup has a competition-high 14 goals from the opening four rounds, five more than his nearest rival.

Jordyn Baker was the Royals’ best with 25 disposals and two goals, while Mitchell Williams kicked four goals from eight marks.

Top-10 draft chance Jedd Busslinger was not among the Royals’ best despite taking 11 marks to go with 21 touches.

Peel Thunder’s Michael Sellwood had a career-best day to lead his team to a dominant 12.8 (80) to 5.8 (38) win over Perth down in Mandurah.

The midfielder recorded 31 disposals and kicked four goals in a stand-out game, with support from Clay Hall (24 disposals and a goal) and ruckman Jackson Broadbent (15 disposals and 24 hit-outs).

Connor McDonald and Oliver Zolnier-Owens were the Demons’ stand-outs with 28 disposals each, while Michael Hall was their only multiple goalkicker with two.
