WAFL 2026: Nephew of West Coast Eagles great Mark LeCras, Koby, set to make West Perth debut

The nephew of a West Coast great will have an 18th birthday to remember, with Koby LeCras to make his league debut for West Perth when they take on South Fremantle in Joondalup on Sunday. LeCras – who is the son of former Falcons star Brent – will continue to add to his ever-improving draft year when he players for the winless side against the reigning premiers. The teenage forward comes from strong pedigree, with Brent a premiership player at West Perth, winning a Simpson Medal in the 2003 grand final victory. Brent LeCras also played six games for North Melbourne in between two stints at West Perth, where he kicked 159 goals in 141 games. LeCras’ uncle is West Coast great Mark, who kicked an incredible 441 in 219 games for the Eagles and was part of their 2018 premiership victory. Mark also played 41 games for the Falcons, kicking 69 goals before cementing himself as a regular in the Eagles’ AFL side. The game falls on LeCras’ birthday and comes more than a week after he kicked equal game-high three goals to go with 18 disposals and seven marks for the AFL Academy against Richmond’s VFL side in Melbourne. In a good omen for Koby, Mark made his league debut only weeks out from his 18th birthday and kicked a goal in a win against Claremont in Joondalup. Brent had to wait until he was 20 to make his debut, but would kick 15 goals in 19 games in 2002. LeCras trained with the Eagles over the pre-season as part of his academy duties and is one of the top draft prospects out of Western Australia this year. He will follow fellow draft hopeful Leo Steed in breaking into his WAFL club’s top side, with the midfielder having already impressed in two league games for Swan Districts. Brent LeCras was named the best country footballer of the decade in 2020 after an incredible career for Cervantes. After returning to the club in 2013 he kicked an incredible 421 goals in 71 matches. He finished his career with eight premierships from his 123 games, winning seven Lindsay Tierney Memorial Trophies as the competition’s leading goal-kicker for the Central Midlands Coastal League.
