VideoOscar Allen has taken a screamer at Optus Stadium, but Collingwood's Jeremy Howe paid the price.

Oscar Allen soared for a hanger to help overcome the absence of Liam Ryan as Collingwood struggled with the challenge of losing two of its biggest stars to early injuries.

Allen flew high for a highlight grab early in the second term to help West Coast steady after a shaky start, leaping over the top of Jordan Roughead before holding onto the footy as he crashed to the turf.

It was extra painful for the fast-starting Magpies as gun defender Jeremy Howe suffered an injury to his right leg in the contest.

Howe went down to the rooms in obvious pain and was not sighted for the remainder of the first half, with a suspected hamstring injury.

The injury appeared bad enough for the Eagles to tweet out a ‘best wishes’ tweet for the high flyer.

It came after fellow big name Jordan De Goey was also an early casualty for the Pies, with the star suffering a facial injury in the first term.

De Goey was crunched by an arm to the face from Tim Kelly in a centre bounce contest and wasn’t able to take his kick, coming immediately from the ground.

The forward was subbed out, with Brayden Sier injected into the contest.

West Coast turned a 15-point quarter-time hole into a lead late in the second term thanks to a four-goal burst from Jack Darling to turn the game on its head.
